Ohayo!

When I came back from my 10 day trip to Tokyo last year, I promised myself that I would blog all about it. Well, it's been a year already and it's time to get going before my memories fade into oblivion. I ended up reading a lot of blogs and internet stuff in preparation for my trip so it's the least I could do! I hope this will be the first of many times in my lifetime that I will write about going to Japan...

Day 21: Leaving Seoul ㅜ.ㅜ

We did most of our packing the night before which was suppose to have been an easy task until we tried to overstuff one our luggage bags causing the zipper to tear away from the fabric of the bag. With departments stores closed, our hopes rested on the luggage store in the Yeong-chun Market still being open and having a bag of the right size. My Aunt and I rushed down while my mom tried to repair the torn bag with stitching. Luckily for us, we caught the owner just as he was about to close shop. I got to see my Aunt’s bargaining skills at work as we were able to haggle the price of a large luggage bag from about 80,000W down to about 65,000W. First she lowballed him like at 55,000W using the old “I only have XXX amount of dollars” line and then proceeded to count her money with her back turned to the owner. It was funny to watch. Day 4 (Thursday): Ueno + Akihabara

I ventured out this morning looking for a new cafe and found one called Caffe Veloce just a minute from my hotel. I ended up spending the rest of the week having my breakfast here. I'd usually get the same thing everything morning, an apple flaky like thing and a cup of hot chocolate or cocoa latte. Once in a while, they decorated the froth with a heart. They once gave me just a latte which was fine even though I don't drink coffee. View Larger Map This morning was going to be my first real taste of the Tokyo Subway/Rail during the rush hour period. I got on the subway around 9:00AM to head to Ueno. It was crazy. Even the most packed subway ride in Toronto I've been on doesn't come close to how tightly packed people were. Just when you think the subway is full (but still tolerable) and no more people can get on, it gets worse. Day 6: Moonlight Rainbow Fountain and Seoul International Fireworks Festival

One of the things I was most excited about seeing in Seoul was the Seoul International Fireworks Festival. Before my trip, I did a search to see what events would be going on and I really wanted to see Kim C and Hot Potato in concert but they were finishing their tour a month before I would get there. Then I came across information for the previous years Fireworks Festival in 2009. I couldn’t find any information for 2010 so I posted the question on Seoul’s Facebook page and they replied that it was happening on October 9th, 2010 which was going to be my first Saturday in Seoul. Needless to say I was happy! The fireworks were happening at Yeouido and in talking with aunt during the week, she didn’t think it would be a good idea to go since it was going to be so crowded and chaotic.
